Honorable Board of Supervisors,

My name is Seung Ku Kang. I am the President of Korean American Chamber of Commerce USA.

Let me ask you a question first!
- If your sister or relatives are kidnapped and sent to World War II as a sex slave when they were age of 12 -17, how would you feel?
- If the kidnapper is still denying the truth of sex slavery torture, how would you feel?

The young Korean women and girls lost their young lives, and yet the survivors are suffered terribly throughout their lives. To this day, Japanese government has tried many ways of ignoring, manipulating or even hiding this piece of truth from the history to their own citizens and the world. But they are historic truth that we should not forget.

Just like Jews in US, their siblings or relatives’ human rights tortured by German during World War TWO.

However, German announced and made official apology to Jews to relieve their pain and sorrow.

We, as the Korean American Chamber of Commerce, truly believe erecting the “comfort women” memorial in San Francisco in honor the victims of WWII, and we do not believe it will threaten the economic business relationship between Japan and US.
On the other hand, with the open, acceptance and recognition of this dark history will show the world that San Francisco is a progressive, diverse and set the great example to the rest of the nation that we are not afraid of facing the truth.

Dear Supervisors,
please support the resolution of erecting the“comfort women” memorial in this beautiful City of San Francisco.
